Angela Petrie: 29 September 1940 – 22 August 2022

Angela PetrieIt is with sadness that we report the death of the Chair of The Peter Darrell Trust, Angela Petrie, who died in Glasgow on 22nd August 2022.

Angela’s early career in the RAF laid the foundations for the determined, focused, driving force that she became. Her love of dance and her connection with Scottish Ballet took off when she and her husband Euan were living in West Princes Street in Glasgow. As a vibrant member of the local community, Angela knocked on the door of her near neighbour, Scottish Ballet, to ask what was going to be their contribution to the area? She was soon employed as a fundraiser for the company and the rest is history.

Angela was a trailblazer in linking arts, business and local government and she raised enormous amounts of money for Scottish Ballet. She spearheaded Scottish Ballet’s tour of Hong Kong and displayed masterly diplomacy as she juggled the different needs and wants of Scottish Ballet, the business sponsors, and the trade development arm of Strathclyde Regional Council.

Angela chaired the Peter Darrell Trust from its formation and was a formidable force who would not take no for an answer! She raised money for a series of Choreographic Awards in Peter’s name. She was the driving force behind the book, Man of Tomorrow, a photographic record of Peter’s ballets. During her time as Chair the trust funded projects supporting choreographic talent and successfully promoted Peter’s works to companies all over the world.

The trustees feel a deep sense of personal loss and the trust will greatly miss Angela’s energy, kindness, playfulness, enterprise and enthusiasm – and especially her astonishing can-do attitude.
