Angela Petrie: 29 September 1940 – 22 August 2022

Angela PetrieIt is with sadness that we report the death of the Chair of The Peter Darrell Trust, Angela Petrie, who died in Glasgow on 22nd August 2022.

Angela’s early career in the RAF laid the foundations for the determined, focused, driving force that she became. Her love of dance and her connection with Scottish Ballet took off when she and her husband Euan were living in West Princes Street in Glasgow. As a vibrant member of the local community, Angela knocked on the door of her near neighbour, Scottish Ballet, to ask what was going to be their contribution to the area? She was soon employed as a fundraiser for the company and the rest is history.

Peter Darrell takes his place at Sadler’s Wells Theatre

Peter Darrell bust

The Peter Darrell Trust was delighted to unveil a bronze bust of the late Peter Darrell CBE, founder choreographer of the Scottish Ballet. This new sculpture, by Alison Murray Wells, will be displayed alongside those of his peers, at Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London.

Peter Darrell started his career with Sadler’s Wells Ballet together with a number of young dancers and choreographers, many of whom would become substantial contributors to the history of British Ballet – Kenneth MacMillan, Peter Wright, and John Cranko amongst them. Peter co-founded the Western Theatre Ballet in 1957 in Bristol and led the company to London where it was based at Sadler’s Wells before again moving to Glasgow in 1969 to become The Scottish Ballet.
