Gardens of the Night
15th April 1983, The Scottish Ballet Theatre Royal,
Glasgow
This was inspired by Chopin's relationship with the writer George
Sand, the novel Orlando by Virginia Woolf and her friendship with
Vita Sackville-West. The soloists in the three movements are clad
alike in white jackets and trousers, their sex is secondary to
the emotions and conflicts - love, jealousy, separation and lonely
anguish - which they portray.
